Tapena wines from Spain

Tapena Tempranillo Spanish red wine Tapena Tempranillo Spanish red wine

The quintessential red wine grape from Spain, Tempranillo (temp-rah-NEE-yo), the little early one, adapts well to varied growing conditions. We think of this Tempranillo as Pinot Noir in blue jeans.

Tasting Notes
Intense ruby red in color along with violet-blue undertones which characterize this wines youth. This classic Tempranillo holds juicy red fruit aromas with just a touch of chocolate. On the palate, you'll find ripe red fruit flavors with a soft and silky finish carrying supple tannins and great length.

Food Pairings
Tapeña Tempranillo combines beautifully with roast or grilled red meats in addition to a multitude of different tapas, from grilled kebabs to garlic prawns.

"Begins with pleasant aromas of earth, a little bit of green (pyrazine), plum and a hint of tobacco. Tasting reveals a perfectly pleasant wine featuring blackberry, plum, lavender and dark chocolate. It also has a dry, grippy texture that is still smooth and easy to drink. It ends dry with lingering tart blackberry flavors. Nicely balanced and a heck of a good wine for only $8!"

"It has lots of rich dark berry fruit, with some chocolate, coffee, lavender, and spice. Not super complex, but it was a good food wine with some nice fruit, a smooth texture, and a clean finish. Good with the rich flavors and sweet roasted veggies from the dish. Great value."

"...dark berry and cherry scents. It feels fresh and lively, with good body weight and forward, candied flavors of cherry and raspberry. The finish is nice, with cocoa notes and lasting sweetness."
